Paying Attention. A recollection.
This morning when I stepped outside to my car, I immediately noticed the sweetness in the air of newly fallen leaves . I took a deep breath and felt content.
In that moment as I drove I recalled a walk I shared with a dear friend several months earlier when we were deep in the woods that ran parallel to a great body of water. The scent of the water on that early Autumn day was intoxicating. So much so that I paused to take it all in. I asked if he, too, could smell it. The natural earthiness of the water, the dirt and the sun beating down on it.
He could not. I was dumbfounded. It made me wonder what other little things in his life he didn't notice or ignored altogether.
