Sombra

An hour is not just an hour, it is a vessel full of perfumes, sounds, plans and atmospheres.

She knew his dark side.

All of the things he thought he hid so well. There is a saying that sometimes you can tell what a person is hiding by the way they hide it. Cass never really thought particular sexual proclivities were 'dark' but to someone like Ben, appearances meant everything.

Ben loved Cass, there was no doubt about that. It's just that she spooked him now and again. He would catch her glimpse at various moments and her eyes would penetrate his own in a way that would at once arouse him and stir his guts nervous. It was that very essence in her that he couldn't stay away from. Cass was no raving beauty either, in fact she came off as sensually plain. Bits and pieces of her that he found irresistible stacked on top of one another made him love drunk when they first met. The curve of her wide smile, the small of her back, the rousing way she spoke to him as if she'd known him his whole life...and of course, the look that washed over her face when he walked into the room.

Ben knew her dark side, only Cass didn't think so.

It was human to feel like a fraud, Ben thought. Her broken-ness mixed well with big spoonfuls of moxie and attitude. Cass was intoxicated by the way Ben made love to her. He was a little older than her but not by much that mattered at this point in their lives. She knew how hungry and sexual he looked as a younger man by the photographs he kept in a small black box in the corner of his office. These seemed important to him only Cass was smitten with who he was now.  Mellow yet intense....still with a simmering sexuality. Like a smoldering fire that would give way to a raging blaze if it caught the right wind.

That is how he made love to her.
Tenderness at the start, the sort that made her feel a slight madness at the tips of her toes to the corners of her mind........giving way to utter carnal consumption.

They were stirred and connected by the shadows in one another. The unspoken words between them rising hard and fast in their hearts and throats. A hunger.

Like blood for vampires.
